Appendix II: The plural forms of Quileute words.
We use the term plural to refer to forms of words that refer to more than one. For example, birds is the plural form of the word bird. Other plural forms are dogs, chiefs, hats, boats, and elephants. Plural forms in English are quite regular… we simply add -s or -es to the word when we refer to more than one of anything.
Well, it’s not so easy in Quileute. Quileute forms plurals in various ways, and you simply have to learn how each word makes its plural form. The most predictable type is what we call reduplication. That involves simply doubling the first syllable of the word.
